Zone Alarm Problem Solved

At last a solution has been found to the problem with Zone Alarms firewall and a Microsoft update. The problem began when an update for Windows was released to the public and many people had the antivirus software Zone Alarm. This apparently caused a mismatch on PC’s and stopped all users from gaining access to the internet and their email accounts. This left many people hard done by and wondering what to do. The Microsoft patch was released to be able to close a gap in security on PC’s. If the patch was not released then it left hackers and viruses to direct users to fake internet websites even if the person would enter in the correct web address. Private software and hardware firms have applied patches themselves to close the security breach.

It was back in March 2008 that a flaw in Internet explorers Domain Name System was exposed and many different companies have been preparing the updates and patches to make sure that any hackers or viruses could not expose the big hole in security.

But Microsoft released its own patch that fixed the problem of the Domain name System as part of it regular cycle. But after installing the patch many people found that they could no longer access the internet or email system at all.

The Microsoft update apparently only effects computers that have Windows XP and 2000 installed with Vista or older configuration Windows not being affected. A spokesperson on behalf of Microsoft said “that many users reported nothing about the problem”.

Many people had to go around the problem by restarting the computer and restoring the settings before the update was installed. This then allowed users to then access the internet again. Many people stumbled across the problem that there was a conflict between the Windows update and the Zone Alarm firewall. They found that changing the firewall security setting from high to medium fixed the problem.

The company behind the Zone Alarm anti virus software Checkpoint Software discovered the problem and decided to create a fix. While the fix was being created they reassured users to uninstall the windows update or change the firewall setting that most people had already done. After a few weeks Zone Alarm was updated and the conflict between the update and firewall was corrected. After all the fuss was over many users complained that in the future Microsoft should test all new updates with all new software and probably the most popular software firewall in the UK.
