274065Over the next few weeks, mobile giant Nokia will be excitedly getting ready to launch the brand new, eagerly awaited 5800 Xpress Music mobile phone.
It’s perhaps fair to say that we, as consumers are becoming a little complacent when it comes to our expectations from technology today.

It’s perfectly understandable however, when our expectations are continually being exceeded. You wouldn’t even think of buying a mobile phone these days if it didn’t provide instant access to the web. The truth is we are so spoilt for choice today and with advancements in technology, comes advancing expectations. So how have Nokia risen to this challenge? By providing us with the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music.

This new Nokia is a perfect example of just how far technology has come.  Clearly designed to take on the Apple iPhone, the 5800 Xpress Music screen is absolutely jam-packed full of gleaming features that will make gadget addicts around the globe whimper in excitement.

Compact in size, at just 3.2 inches and with a higher resolution screen than the iPhone, (640×360 pixels) and a mere weight of just 109g (the iPhone is 133g), Nokia have every reason to be excited.
The built in camera is an impressive 3.2 megapixels, a whole 1.2 megapixels greater than the camera on the iPhone, and has been designed with a Carl Zeiss lens with 3 x digital zoom and flash, ensuring excellent quality snaps. The jpeg format means you can take a photo and email it to a friend, all from your phone and all within seconds.

The 5800 is loaded with useful features, such as GPS technology for pedestrian and car navigation with Nokia Maps 2.0 to help find your way out of any tricky spot and flight mode, as well as all the usual features such as calendars, clocks, games and SMS text messaging and MP3 ringtones.

Having the opportunity to surf the web is almost as essential from your phone today as making a call and the new Nokia doesn’t fail to disappoint here either. Because it supports Flash content, individuals can surf the entire web, and not just pieces of it as is the case with other mobiles still today.

The phone has been designed for its touch-screen, with slick drop down menus, handwriting recognition, an alphanumeric keyboard and easy to navigate icon screens. The front camera is also handy for video calling and the 4x digital video zoom makes focussing even easier.

However the real gem, as the name suggests, is the phones music capabilities. The expansive memory provides 8GB of memory – that’s 6000 songs. One touch takes you directly to your music player, where you can browse by album, artist and genre, as well as the album graphics, similar to the iPod. You can even share your 35 hours of superb sound with others, through the built in crystal clear surround sound speakers with an 8 band graphic equaliser.

Like the Apple iTunes store, Nokia has its own version, the Nokia Music Store, where you can browse, stream and purchase thousands of available songs. Specific software allows you to transfer your playlists.

If all this sounds too good to be true, it’s not. And you’ll love the price too. Cheaper than an iPhone at 249 pounds, the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music will be available to buy from February 2009.
