London based Chip designers ARM, of the new Google Android mobile phone are to reveal the prototype for the first time. It is not yet known what the prototype will look like or who will be supplying the parts. However, the demonstration of the new model will taking place on Thursday in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress, one of the largest and reputable wireless fair. Why are Google making this move? More people have easy access to the net from their phone than they do from their PCs, hence the more people use the net on their phones, the more they will use Google and this means more advertising revenue for their firm.
Google established an alliance in November with more than 30 carriers, handset makers, software firms and chipmakers to create and develop Android, which is designed to make the internet function better on mobile phones and based on open-source software. It is reported that the tools are based on Linux, therefore making it free to use. A number of telecoms companies such as LG, Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile and Taiwan’s High Tech Computer plan to make the phones available this year, based on the Android platform.
However, the move into the wireless industry by the internet search leader could upset established relationships with other mobile phone makers, carriers and customers, and possibly challenging Nokia, Microsoft, Apple and many others.
Also in process are Google bidding for wireless spectrum in the US, which will place it against other carriers such as AT&T and Verizon Wireless. Other partners in Open Handset Alliances such as China Mobile, NTT DoCoMo, KDDI and Telefonica have stated that they are working with other handset makers on developing the new Google based phones.
The new alliances with the carriers have promised better and cheaper mobile phones, also stating that using the internet on your mobile phone with be better than using your own PC at home – one will just have to wait and see about the outcomes in due time.
