It’s been a while since Microsoft offered one of their huge rewards for information on a virus manufacturer, four years in fact, which shows how important the latest issue is.
The technology giant have offered a $250,000 bounty to the person that leads them to an arrest for the creation of the Conficker worm. This virus is a criminal attack which has affected millions of computers the world over since it began in October 2008.
It self replicates and spreads through the internet or infected USB memory sticks to any computer that has not been updated with Windows security measures. Once in place, the virus stops machines from receiving automatic updates, freezes users out of their own accounts stops security scans leading to the obvious issues of access. It also prevents access to carious security related websites.
In a bid to protect computers, Microsoft have joined forces with security companies, domain name providers and internet providers to disable infected domains and prevent the spread of the Conficker virus.
The last bounty on the head of a virus creator was paid out after an arrest so the creator of Conficker should be watching his back right about now!
