Following on from last week’s post about Google testing results which update in real time, the world’s leading search engine appears to be hinting at what they’re about to announce at today’s search event.
The last few Google Doodles including yesterday’s rather spectacular HTML5 “balls” logo may not be a random selection of pictures but more a series of hints as to what Google are planning to announce. Today’s logo changes colour as the user types, which we’re taking as quite a clear indication that results are about to update in real time.
One of HP Group’s Research and Development specialists Sebastian Cowie had this to say about the Google event and forthcoming announcement. “If the rumours are to be believed, we are soon to be treated to a rather large update (or two) from the almighty Google. Judging by the logo changes we’ve seen over the past few days, myself and the HP Group team are fairly confident that Live search and AJAX-powered search results are imminent, either that or they’re about to announce Google Skynet.
Live search results could spell the end for long-tail search terms – May Day removed most MFA and Long-Tail targetted websites from the SERPS so this update will coincide quite well with the recently removals.
We’re all excitedly awaiting the new updates”.
Wait. Google Skynet? Does Sebastian know something we don’t? Is Google becoming self-aware and seeing long-tail search terms as a threat to its generics? We’ll have to wait and see what Google has in store for us later today. It’s a fairly safe assumption that AJAX-powered results and more results per page are about to go live, but whether or not we should be waiting out the Googlepocalypse in an underground bunker remains to be seen.
