It was the most anticipated announcement that Google has made in a long time, a large amount of hype and two rather engaging doodles that had generated more interest and Tweets than Justin Beiber (possibly), but how has the world reacted to Google Instant? After watching the live broadcast on YouTube a sense of relief and confusion washed over the blogosphere, this then turned into anger and bloggers scaremongering for traffic with titles such as “Is Google instant The End of SEO?”
In the real world, it seems that a lot of users cannot access Google Instant and the others just don’t want to. Tech-savvy users that have the latest browsers will be ‘treated’ to the latest Google, while Mr and Mrs Joe Bloggs sitting on IE6/7 or Firefox 2 won’t be able to save anywhere from ’11 hours for every second it operates’ to ’2-5 seconds for the average user per day’.
We’re anxiously waiting to see how Google will report on how they think their release for Instant went, how impressions will be affected by this increase in search volume and how Google Webmaster Tools will report on visibility now that high ranking sites are likely to be seen a lot more.
For those wanting to try Google Instant, you can visit this url to activate it, and for those wanting to disable there is a tab on the right.
