Analytics In A Box

Google’s analytics Urchin software has announced a new integration with Coradiant, called Analytics In A Box.

Analytics In A Box passively collects web traffic information whilst sitting behind firewalls and using a packet-sniffing technique, offering you the option of reducing reliance on page tags because the system from Coradiant gathers traffic data independently.

Urchin is Analytics software owned by Google that is particularly suitable for those companies which have content behind a firewall, or other restrictions which prevent them from using Google Analytics. Urchin is installed and managed on your own servers, as opposed to Google Analytics being maintained and hosted by Google’s own servers.

Urchin also reports on robot or spider activity, allows you to process and re-process your log files locally, and reprocess historical log file data. It doesn’t, however, integrate tightly with AdWords, and unlike Google Analytics, it isn’t free.

Analytics In A Box uses Coradiant’s technologies with a modified Urchin 6 to provide you with new ways of looking at web traffic as well as reporting on the performance of your server. Analysis capabilities are enhanced thanks to a richer data model and customised reporting solutions, and the new product also provides deeper insights into site performance, marketing optimisation and conversion behaviour.

Companies will benefit from quicker access to intelligence via on-demand analytics, and will be able to streamline IT operations thanks to log file-maintenance elimination and the reduction in the need for JavaScript tagging. Confidential data is stored securely inside the appliance, allowing good compliance with privacy requirements.

The launch is good news for those who can’t use Google Analytics for their Analytics needs.

Google acquired Urchin Software Corporation in 2005.
